EDIT*** sorry if the formatting is a bit rough, and still working on embedding those tweets. Working out some kinks, should have merch up by tonight, but figured if there was anything for America's Asshole To launch with a discussion about, this was it!
Well well well, where the hell do I even begin?
This is without a doubt a fucked up situation this country has gotten itself into. First off let me be as clear as possible. The violence at the capitol building yesterday was completely unacceptable. There are no 2 ways about it. AND I will also say I think this whole thing is being oversimplified and misconstrued. AGAIN ANY VIOLENCE IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!! Did I mention that VIOLENCE IS UNACCEPTABLE?!?!?!
But lets dig a bit deeper into some of what has been going on. I’ve seen a lot of people comparing what’s going on now to the BLM riots, and people claiming that conservatives who had a problem with that are perfectly fine with this. I for one AM NOT OK WITH THIS EITHER, but it does at least make a bit more sense to me. Not necessarily the issues causing the response, but the response itself. Personally I think one of the biggest differences is that these people have a problem with the way the government is behaving aren’t burning down businesses that have nothing to do with the slights they perceive to have against them, they’re going to the source, which I do think is the right move, and I was completely in favor of yesterdays events RIGHT UP UNTIL THEY BECAME VIOLENT.
I also think this could have been very easily avoided. Had the Supreme Court simply heard the Texas led lawsuit regarding elections in various swing states, that would have gone a long way towards calming these things down. But instead saying that they would not even hear the grievances between states (one of their primary responsibilities) they made all of these people feel like the system was even more rigged. They could have heard the case ruled against Texas in one of the fastest hearings ever and people would have still been upset but not nearly as much as they were with the refusal to hear the case. This also could have been avoided if the BLM Riots weren’t so widely praised in the media with half of CNN at times asking who said protests need to be peaceful? The nation set a terrible precedent over the summer, Violent protests/riots for any cause never should have been accepted and normalized, and they all should have been shut down and demonized the minute they started to turn violent.
Now, lets get back to now, its too late to have avoided this situation, we don’t have a time machine. As I think I’ve already made clear, I DO NOT SUPPORT THE VIOLENCE!!!!!!
And one of my biggest complaints during the BLM protests that were called “mostly peaceful” (we’ll get into the different ways this part of the story is being covered in a minute), was that all of the people who were there to do the right thing and exercise their right to Peaceably Assemble, did nothing to stop the violence once it began. Guess what, this might not be too common these days, BUT I FEEL THE SAME DAMN WAY ABOUT EVERYONE IN DC YESTERDAY!
How the hell do you gather to “Defend Your Country,” and then proceed to let the people who are supposedly on your side start to behave this way? First of all you have to know its wrong, you just have to, and even if you’re somehow too much of a piece of shit to know that; Second EVERYONE ON THE PLANET HAS TO KNOW THIS ISN”T HELPING YOUR CAUSE!!!!!! A peaceful protest may have, but what this has turned into is actively and severely hurting your case and your perception.
Another story floating around is that there were members of ANTIFA, BLM etc, infiltrating to cause chaos and make the Trump supporters look bad. Which is quite possible, there’s quite a bit of photographic evidence most notably of the jackass in the furs, protesting with ANTIFA, with BLM, and then centerstage in half of yesterdays photos. BUT I DONT CARE! As per my last point, I highly doubt that the overwhelming majority of yesterdays protesters were infiltrators of this variety. So if they’re truly the reason for the escalation, WHY THE FUCK DID THE REST OF YOU GO ALONG WITH IT AND NOT STOP THE ESCALATION????? If anything that makes you worse, you claim moral superiority, you’ve spent months coming out against this behavior and yet you then turn around and pull similar bullshit!
Alright now onto the media. The mainstream media spent the entire summer defending violent RIOTS, they treated CHAZ and CHOP and whatever other bullshit violent armed takeovers were going on as though they were these eutopia’s despite, unbelievable levels of violence. These people forced police and government employees out of large geographical areas and were adamantly and very vocally claiming they were no longer part of the United States, and they were called peaceful protests. Then immediately upon yesterdays protesters turned Rioters, entering the capital building they were calling this a violent insurrection, and all of these people traitors. I wouldn’t have such a problem with those facts if it weren’t for the way they treated significantly more extreme/violent actions taken by side the media supported all summer. All I’d ask for is the slightest bit of moral continuity.
Now onto everyone talking about the “white privelege” of the matter. The way the cops would have been shooting BLM etc. I’d ask you to do 2 things, firstly explain that the cops wouldn’t hurt anyone yesterday to the family of the airwoman who the capital police shot and killed last night. And 2nd tell me the last time a massive conservative rally turned violent. When you’re drawing a blank on the 2nd one consider the fact that they simply were not prepared properly or in a timely fashion for the police or national guard to do anything about it until they had already taken the building. At which point they did start clearing them out with tear gas, which is significantly more dangerous inside buildings than outdoors.
Finally if you want to blame Trump for the violence, lets take a look at his twitter from yesterday.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Please support our Capitol Police and Law Enforcement. They are truly on the side of our Country. Stay peaceful!</p>— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) <a href="https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1346904110969315332?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 6, 2021</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset=“utf-8"></script>
"Please support our Capitol Police and Law Enforcement. They are truly on the side of our Country. Stay peaceful!"
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence! Remember, WE are the Party of Law & Order – respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue. Thank you!</p>— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) <a href="https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1346912780700577792?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 6, 2021</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset=“utf-8"></script>
"I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence! Remember, WE are the Party of Law & Order – respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue. Thank you!"
And then there’s the final tweet he sent out before being suspended which twitter has deleted in which he told everyone to go home and they needed to stay peaceful.
We need to be fair and morally consistent people. That’s all. And I think its fair to say, that yesterday started out as a patriotic gathering, turned into an unacceptable violent riot, and that’s no more acceptable than BLM rioting, which in most cases also started out as a peaceful patriotic thing and turned into unacceptable riots.
